This Santa piece was one of my least serious pieces, but most effective. I created this installation art piece prior to knowing or understanding installation art. This piece was something I did on my own “just for fun”. I think it’s important to incorporate are and creation into ones everyday lifestyle. We tend to forget the importance of making another person stop, look, think, and maybe even smile. I am a big fan of turning ordinary objects into the extraordinary and I believe I demonstrated that here.

The above piece and an experimental performance art piece. In the piece I am walking through the park when I happen across a Reese’s hanging up in the tree. I decide I will do anything to get the Reese’s so I try to climb the blue things to get it. The performance is a mix of aerial arts with the quest to achieve something. I’m not particularly fond of this piece looking back on it, but after seeing many of the performance pieces in Art and Technology I’m quite sure many of the performers feel the same way! I think I achieved performance for performance sake but if I were to do a performance art piece again it would have a deeper meaning.

The specifications of this assignment was to create an installation art piece of either nature in a man-made environment or man-made objects in a natural environment. As one can see above I chose to put man-made objects in natural environment, however the irony is that man-made plastic bottles have unfortunately become a part of the natural environment we see around us everyday. I chose to form these bottles into the shape of a person to show that people’s choices directly impact our environment and are the soul reason that man-made products end up in nature. I did recycle this bottle man after I photographed him. I also think its interesting that on the day I photographed the Hillsborough river had flooded all the pathways in plant park. One could say the the production of man-made items causing global warming which factors into rising sea levels.

This dirt installation was my introduction into installation art. The requirements were simple, create something in nature using a 40 pound bag of dirt. I really and enjoyed an embraced the physical nature of this project. The idea behind this piece is that the dirt is flowing out of a root beer can at the top of the stairs. I think the dirt fits nicely with the more earthy tones of root beer. I think one of the things that makes the composition of this piece successful is that I created it surfaces of different heights. I like the way the flow downward almost as if it is part liquid. I also appreciate there is a good color and texture contrast between the dirt and it’s surrounding. I like that the dirt comes in contact with multiple surface textures.
